Behind the Scenes of Wonderworld

The world is full of wonders. This motif was initiated as a free project: A project in which we could draw from the full, without looking at the clock, without limiting our creativity. Most importantly, this project allowed us to put our skills to the test and apply different working techniques.

Our goal was a pictorial representation with a lot of modeling and texturing work - to do something completely different. Something quite colorful and imaginative. After the daily journey through the many exciting projects shown on creative platforms such as Behance & Co. followed by some sketches, the idea of the motif "Wonderworld" was born.

The project was divided into different phases. Each element of the scenery was modeled and textured as an individual piece and then later combined with all the other 3D models. First, the mythical creature was modeled, a creative mixture of motorcycle, airplane and bee. Some reference images were used to create the anatomical parts. Once the basic shape of the bee was completed, details such as the seat, engine and wings were added.

The second main component is similarly complex: the girl on the bee. The face of the real little "Malina" was photographed from various perspectives and then brought back to life with the help of 3D software.

The photos were used as a modeling reference and for painting the texture maps. The 3D grid was created with the Cinema4D Sculpting Tools, and a "character rig" was created to make it moveable. Thus, the three-dimensional Malina was born and could be placed on the bee.

One of the last steps was to create the environment - this involved modeling many vegetation objects such as mushrooms and stones. The individual components were then combined to create a complex scene. After creating the light setup and many test renderings, the time had finally come: the scene could finally be output and the overall work of art could be admired.
